Know which safety systems are available for your motorcycle

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

motorcycle riders and safety

Motorcycle safety sensors have become increasingly important in recent years. According to Bosch Global, new motorcycle safety systems now include front and rear radar sensors which detect vehicles in the rider's blind spot and warn the rider through the rearview mirror or display when the motorcycle is getting too close to the vehicle in front. These sensors are just one of the many ways motorcycle riders can reduce the risks associated with riding a motorcycle. In addition, modern motorcycles now include onboard sensors that collect information on speed, position, braking, and location, which can be used to send alerts to other motorcyclists or vehicles on the road.

However, it is important to note that motorcycle riders require more maneuvering skills and are more vulnerable in a crash than drivers of other vehicles. As such, the National Safety Council recommends that riders maintain a heightened sense of awareness and have more strength and coordination than drivers of cars. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that riders check their motorcycle's tire pressure and tread depth, hand and foot brakes, headlights and signal indicators, and fluid levels before every ride. Chance Moto explains that the sensors inside motorcycle tires are wireless and battery-powered, which means that the batteries need to be replaced over time.

Overall, motorcycle safety sensors are an important tool that can help increase rider awareness and reduce the risks associated with motorcycle riding. However, riders should also take other safety precautions, such as wearing a helmet, maintaining their motorcycle, and practicing safe riding habits.
